Bury olla pot next to plants, only the opening on the top should be visible.  Fill the pot with water.  

Olla pots water deeply, which helps supply nutrients and promote dense root growth.  It helps prevent extreme water evaporation and water run off.  The pores on the pot are small, which allow the plant roots to pull the water from the pot when needed.

Ollas can be used for lettuce, herbs, squash, melons, tomatoes, and chiles.  It can also be used with perennial plants, young trees, vines, and shrubs.  Woodier plants might break the olla with their roots.
