Southern Maidenhair Fern 

A California maidenhair fern can reach a height of two feet tall and wide.  This fern grows along springs and stream banks.  This plant can go dormant in summer if it receives too much light or not enough water.

Plant with: Oaks (Quercus species), Cottonwood (Populus species), Ponderosa Pine, California Fan Palm (Washingtonia filifera).  Other shade plants - Deer Fern (Blechnum spicant), Horsetail (Equisetum species), Polypody Fern (Polypodium species), Sword Fern (Polystichum species), Chain Fern (Woodwardia fimbriata), Meadow Rue (Thalicturm species), Yerba Buena (Clinopodium douglasii), Western Columbine (Aquilegia formosa), Monkeyflower (Mimulus cardinalis or guttatus)

- Full or Part shade

- Tolerates clay but does well in loam soil

- Keep soil moist, do not let roots dry out
- Native to California
