Purple Needle Grass
Named the California State grass in 2004. It can reach a height of up to three feet tall and one and a half feet wide. It is found in the valleys, mountains and coastal hills throughout California. The root system can reach up to twenty feet deep below the soil. It helps suppress invasive plants and helps support native oaks. This plant produces a pollen that can produce an allergic reaction.
