Yellow flower clusters bloom in the winter to mid spring. This plant does best on rocky clay slopes with excellent drainage. If planted in sandier soils, it can handle supplementary water up to once a month. It is found in dry slopes and flats in chaparral and openings in mixed evergreen forest.
