Fairy duster 

 This shrub grows up to three feet high and ten feet wide.  It has criss-crossing branches with dark green leaves that look like tight miniature ferns.  Red spikey flowers bloom year around with seed pods that look like snow peas and  when ripe they explode.  This shrub is native to sandy washes, flats, and hillsides.  You can plant a few and use these plants as a screen, plant one singularly, or plant in a deep pot.

Plant with Desert Willow, California Fan PalmDesert Lavender, Creosote Bush, Ocotillo, Jojoba, Blue Paloverde, White Bursage, Chuparosa, Barrel Cactus, Brittlebush, Indigo Bush, Apricot Mallow, Opuntia spp, numerous annual wildflowers.

- Plant in full sun

- Sandy or decomposed granite soil and requires good drainage

- Water once a week after the first year

- Drought tolerant after established

- Hardy up to 25 degrees

- Attracts birds, bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies

- Native to California
