Yerba Mansa

Chumash - onchochi

A fast spreading ground cover that grows less than one foot high by two feet high.  This plant will only spread if the soil is moist.  It has large green waxy leaves and white flowers that bloom in the spring and summer.  It is deciduous in the winter and spring.   A great plant for water features- it can be plated in the water or along the edges of water.  The leaves are used medicinally to reduce swelling.

 Plant with: Yellow Monkeyflower, Scarlet Monkeyflower, Stream Orchid, various Rushes, various sedges, Iris spp, Equisetum spp

- Plant in full to part shade

- Best in clay, sand, saline, or alkaline soils

- Tolerant of heat

- Water regularly

- Deer resistant

- Hardy up to 0 degrees
