Summer Savory Seeds

Satureja hortensis

Peppery flavor used to season a wide array of dishes—beans, sausage, cabbage, wild game, and even vinegar. Both fresh and dried leaves can be used. Somewhat lanky plants grow up to 18" tall.

  • Conventional
  • Annual plants
  • Plants grow to 18 inches tall
  • Long, thin green leaves
  • Plants are somewhat lanky

This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating
  • Dried leaves

Summer savory has a more delicate, sweet aroma than its sister-plant, winter savory.

It is used as a substitute for sage in Canadian dishes to flavor dressings such as cretonnade. It is also used to flavor beans and is part of the standard "herbs de Provence" mixture used in French cooking. Summer savory also makes an excellent addition to sausage seasonings and stew.

SSE's current stock of the Summer Savory herb tested at a 47% germination rate. This is below the federal germination rate standard (50%) and has been over-packed by 50% of the stated quantity.
