Common name: Big Saltbush, Quail Bush

A fast growing shrub that can reach up to ten feet tall and wide.  It has yellow and brown flowers that bloom in the summer.  This shrub makes a great hedge or bank stabilization.  You should prune after the flowers and fruits have faded.  You can pinch regularly when the young plant is about to produce full dense growth.

Plant with: native grasses such as Deer Grass (Muhlenbergia sp.), Arrow Weed (Pluchea sericea), Mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa or pubescens), Desert Thorn (Lycium sp.), Alkali Goldenbush (Isocoma acradenia), and willows (Salix sp.)

 

 

- Plant in full sun

- Best in sandy soil

- Water once a month after the first year

- Attracts butterflies and birds

- Hardy up to 15 degrees

- Drought tolerant

- Fire resistant

- Native to California
