Dr. Hurd Manzanita

A California Native evergreen shrub with gray green foliage that grows to about 15 feet high feet, it can be pruned into a small tree.  White flowers bloom in late winter.  It has red bark and is one of the fastest growing manzanitas- it can reach its mature height in a few years.

It is best to prune in the time when they are flowering to early summer.  Each flower cluster terminates the growth of a shoot causing an irregular twiggy branching habit.  It is not recommended to prune manzanitas during cool, wet winter months, this encourages fungal pathogens to spread.  You can edge in late spring or early summer.

- Plant in full sun to partial shade

- Well drained soil

- Tolerates clay soil

- Water one to two times per summer once established

- Hardy up to 15 degrees

- Drought tolerant
