Catalina Ironwood, Santa Cruz Ironwood, Fern Leaf Ironwood, Island Ironwood
An evergreen tree that can reach up to 60 feet tall and 40 feet wide. This tree can grow up to two feet per year. It has white flowers that boom during the summer. It can be susceptible to aphids. Prune in the summer after it has flowered. To maintain a single trunk, remove all sprouts from the basal burl. This tree develops basal burls that help the plant recover from fires in its natural habitat. A healthy tree can recover from fire, over pruning, and collision if you prune it back to the stump to start over again.
