Scrophularia californica, California Figwort

A California native perenial that is referred to as the bee plant.  It can reach a height of up to four feet and three feet wide.  It attracts bees, wasps, hummingbirds and is an important food source.  It is a host plant for the Common Buckeye and Chalcedon Checkerspot butterflies.  Small red maroon flowers bloom in the spring through winter.  You can find this plant all over California: chaparral, wetlands, on the coast, riparian, and in forests.
