A fast-growing evergreen shrub that can grow up to twelve feet tall and wide and spreads rapidly by sucker roots. The blue green leaves are one foot long and has ten to fifteen serrated leaflets and when bruised have a strong salty peanut butter-like smell. Spikes of dark maroon-colored flowers are displayed on stalks above the foliage from winter through spring followed by papery seed pods. This plant goes dormant in the summer.

- Best in well-drained soil, does not need irrigation
