California Fuchsia

A deciduous perennial that grows up to two feet tall and four feet wide.  It forms a dense spreading mat.  The red orange tubular flowers bloom summer through fall.  This species has rounder leaves than the other.

it is not recommended to prune the plant until it is established, about two years.  Once established cut back hard every winter after the plant is done blooming.  It should be cut back to 2” stubs.  If the plant is not pruned, new growth will emerge at the tips of existing stems.

Plant in full sun to light shade

- Best in well-drained loam, sand, and rocky soil

- Water once a month after the first year

- Drought tolerant

- Deer resistant

- Attracts hummingbirds, birds, bees, and butterflies
