Channel Islands Tree Poppy, Harford's tree poppy

A shrub or small tree native to California that can grow up to twenty feet tall by eight feet wide in a mounding, dense form. This plant can grow quickly, up to two feet a year.  Yellow flower clusters bloom in the winter through fall.  This plant does best on rocky clay slopes with excellent drainage.  If planted in sandier soils, it can handle supplementary water up to once a month.  It is found in dry slopes and flats in chaparral and openings in mixed evergreen forest.

Other chaparral and sage scrub companions include California Encelia (Encelia californica), California Sagebrush (Artemisia californica), Bladderpod (Peritoma arborea), and Ceanothus spp
