Purple Three Awn

This fast growing perennial grass grows up to three feet hight and two feet wide.  It is deciduous and can get sparse in the Fall especially in colder climates.  Recommended for erosion control on slopes, hillsides, and in canyons.  This plant produces a pollen that can produce an allergic reaction.

Avoid cutting back the plant if possible. Remove old seed heads by gently pulling.  

Plant with: Creosote Bush (Larrea tridentata), Sagebrush (Artemisia sp.), Joshua Tree (Yucca brevifolia), Brittlebush(Encelia sp.), Buckwheat (Eriogonum sp.), and various cactus and succulent species.

 - Plant in full sun

- Plants do well in well draining soil

- Drought tolerant

- Hardy up to 20 degrees

- Native to California
