Commonly found in many habitats including chaparral, and coastal sand. Deerweed grows up three feet tall and wide. The stems are branched, with small, deciduous, leaves consisting of three to six leaflets. The plant blooms from March to August and has flowers that are small, yellow, and clustered together in a flower cluster. The flowers become reddish with age. The fruit consists of a curved pod with two seeds. Can be cut back in late summer or early fall to stimulate new growth. Deerweed can be very useful in restoration or in any garden situation.
