Woolly Blue Curls Hybrid

Woolly Blue Curls is a three to five foot tall by one to five feet wide evergreen subshrub with violet flower clusters with narrow aromatic leaves.  They bloom in May through August.  Both the flower and foliage has a sweet fragrance like freshly cut cedar with a bouquet of lavender.  Woolly Blue Curls is native to dry slopes, south coast ranges of California.

Sometimes this plant suffers from root rot in the summer heat waves.  You should remove your plant after it dies and plant new ones in a different location in your garden in fall.  This is a hybrid of Trichostema lanatum and the Mexican Trichostema purpusii.  Unlike the Trichostema lanatum this plant is said to be easier to establish and more tolerant of watering!

You can encourage the plant to produce more roots and foliage by pinching off the first couple of flowering stems before they develop.  Young plants should be lightly pinched to encourage more branches and flowering stems.

It has been said that leaves, flowers and stems make a nice tea, supposedly has a positive effect on mood, stomachache, memory.
