Monardella macrantha 'Marian Sampson', Scarlet Monardella

A California native that is a low forming mat that spreads up to four  feet and reaches a height of four feet wide.   Red trumpet flower clusters bloom spring to fall.   A great addition to rock gardens or does well in containers. 

Plant with: southern California trees and shrubs including Serviceberry (Amelanchier sp.), Pines (Pinus sp.), Oaks (Quercus sp.), along with other perennial herbs such as Goldenrod (Solidago sp.), Yarrow (Achillea millfolium), Mule Ears (Wyethia ovata), and native grasses 

- Part shade or full sun

- Best in well draining soil

- Fragrant foliage

- Great companion plant under evergreen oaks

- Deer resistant

- Attracts hummingbirds, birds, bees and butterflies
