Ashyleaf Buckwheat, Coastal Buckwheat

A fast growing evergreen shrub that grows in a mounding or spilling form about three feet high and five feet wide.  Native to coastal bluffs and scrub areas of Southern California. Masses of small densely matted whitish to pink flower clusters on grey foliage.  A great plant for erosion control in dry coastal areas.  Buds for in late spring so do not prune. Allow flowers to naturally age on the plant into a rust red into the fall.

Dead head in late summer/ early fall after flowers have run their course.  Eriogonum mildew can be a problem, spray the mildew with fungicide.
