California Fuchsia, Hummingbird Flower, and Hummingbird Trumpet

A deciduous perennial that grows up to two feet tall and three feet wide.  It forms a dense spreading mat.  The red tubular flowers bloom summer through fall. 

It is not recommended to prune the plant until it is established, about two years.  Once established cut back hard every winter after the plant is done blooming.  It should be cut back to 2” stubs.  If the plant is not pruned, new growth will emerge at the tips of existing stems.

Plant with: Milkweed (Asclepias species), Giant Wild Rye (Elymus condensatus), Sand Aster (Corethrogyne filaginifolia), Sagebrush (Artemisia californica), Monkeyflower (Mimulus species), Encelia californicaBuckwheat(Eriogonum species), Heartleaf Keckiella (Keckiella cordifolia), Penstemon species, Salvia speciesBlue-eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium bellum)

Plant in full sun

- Best in well-drained loam, sand, and rocky soil

- Water once a month, especially during summer
