This succulent is named for the rock-like mound that appears above the soil called a caudex that becomes the base for the leaf growth. It’s an evergreen succulent and it’s leaves resemble those of fescue grass. The dioecious flowers are small and hidden in the foliage and borne on foot long spikes in spring.
