How to dye fabric using natural flowers:

- Fabric needs to be 100% cotton, linen, or silk

- You should mordant the fabric with alum prior to dyeing fabric.  Use 10% alum to the weight of the fiber.  More information on mordanting fabric: https://berbostudio.com/scouring-mordanting

- Dissolve alum in hot water and soak the fabric for at least an hour - we let ours sit overnight.  We stir the fabric often!

- Fresh or Dry flowers - save flowers that is equal to the weight of your fabric

- Using a pot for natural dyeing (we do not use pots that we cook with to dye fabric)

- Add flowers and water to a pot, bring to a boil...as if you were making a pot of tea

- Simmer the flowers and water for an hour

- Add wet fabric to the dye pot

- You can leave the fabric in the pot for an hour or for a day!

- Wring fabric and hang dry in a shady area

- We like to wash our fabric after a week in cold water
